Abstract

This volume contains the papers presented at the Seventh ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Functional Programming (ICFP 2002). The meeting was held in Pittsburgh, USA, on 4-6 October 2002, as part of PLI 2002, the Colloquium on Principles, Logics and Implementations of High-Level Programming Languages. The scope of ICFP includes all languages that encourage programming with functions, including both purely applicative and imperative languages, as well as languages that support objects and concurrency. The topics covered range from principles to practice, from foundations to features, and from abstractions to applications.The call for papers led to 76 submissions, from which the program committee selected 24. Each submission was assigned to at least three committee members, each of whom often solicited an external review. Final decisions were made at a one and a half day meeting in Cambridge. All program committee members attended the meeting.Paper submission and review management was performed with the help of the Microsoft Conference Management Tool, and I am particularly grateful for the technical support of Jonathan Simon at Microsoft Research in Redmond.
