ABSTRACT
This paper deals with the little publicized problem of cable signal assignment, or as I refer to it, “bundling.” That is, the “bundling” together of signals that have the common property that they travel between the same two general areas. (Boards in the terminology of this paper.) Thus, these signals can be grouped together into a cable and their connections to the general areas are called cable connectors.
Before continuing with the “bundling” problem, it is best to define some terms that will be used in the remainder of this paper. They are not original definitions nor are they necessarily the universal definitions. They are only terms which the author has chosen to use.

The FLAG cable system
The Fiberoptic Link Around the Globe (FLAG) cable system is a 10 Gb/s synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) based undersea fiber optic network. When fully operational, FLAG will connect 12 countries with over 120000 voice channels via 27000 km of mostly ...
Optical Fiber Submarine Cable System Development at KDD
An optical fiber submarine cable system using longwavelength and single-mode optical fiber is expected to provide economical long-haul digital transmission. This paper describes the recent research and development on an optical fiber submarine cable ...
Uniform waveband assignment in optical mesh networks
The cost of an optical network in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks can be reduced using optical reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs), which allow traffic to pass through without the need for an expensive optical-electro-...
