ABSTRACT
Consider a referenda system in which questions are broadcast to domestic television and radio receivers and a measure of audience reaction returned to the broadcast distribution center electronically. Such a system might be used to gauge the popularity of programs, commercial products, sociopolitical opinions and new ideas. The return paths might form an independent and dedicated physical network or be carried over modified existing facilities such as CATV distribution and telephony networks.

Three Distributions in the Extended Occupancy Problem
AbstractThe classical and extended occupancy distributions are useful for examining the number of occupied bins in problems involving random allocation of balls to bins. We examine the extended occupancy problem by framing it as a Markov chain and ...
A multivariate complexity analysis of lobbying in multiple referenda
AAAI'12: Proceedings of the Twenty-Sixth AAAI Conference on Artificial IntelligenceWe extend work by Christian et al. [Review of Economic Design 2007] on lobbying in multiple referenda by first providing a more fine-grained analysis of the computational complexity of the NP-complete LOBBYING problem. Herein, given a binary matrix, the ...
A New Coercion-Resistant and Receipt-Free Electronic Voting System with Verifiability and Secrecy
ICEE '12: Proceedings of the 2012 3rd International Conference on E-Business and E-Government - Volume 02The coexistence of verifiability and voting receipts in an electronic voting system is a contradictory issue. Because the electronic vote is in a virtual form, voters rely on voting receipts to verify the integrity of the votes. However, the voting ...
