Welcome to West Lafayette and the 4th Conference on Information Technology Curriculum and our first as SIGITE. This is a transitional conference for us, as we became an official SIG of ACM July 1 of this year.Welcome to past attendees and a particular welcome to new attendees. Whether you are new or returning I encourage you to introduce yourself to new faces and the SIGITE board members and share with us your ideas for and needs from our new society.Our mission as a society is to focus on the educational and technical issues of Information Technology (IT) and provide opportunity for professional growth. Over the last two years we have established national committees that have been working to develop a model curriculum and program specific criteria for accreditation of IT baccalaureate programs. Through these efforts we were invited by ABET to represent IT on the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) sub-committee to develop general accreditation criteria for programs evaluated by CAC.In the future we plan to expand our activities to include students and provide opportunities for scholarships and recognition of outstanding accomplishment and to offer professional workshops and tutorials for professional development.We see a great future ahead and we hope you will join our professional family and help us build the future of our society.
