ABSTRACT
Academic computing services provide computing for student instruction and faculty research. Recently, academic computing centers have taken on the task of providing On-line Public Access Catalogs for libraries. Besides serving a new audience, there has been a paradigm shift. The On-line Public Access Catalogs are indeed production systems and understanding this paradigm shift is crucial for a continuing dialogue between academic computing centers and information systems providers like libraries.
This paper will look at this paradigm shift and will discuss the following areas.
Organization
Priority setting
System requirements
User needs
